PT. Superintending Company of Indonesia (Persero), a state-owned limited
liability company established in 1956 and better known by its shorter name of
SUCOFINDO, was the country’s first inspection company and a joint venture
enterprise between the State of the Republic of Indonesia (“The State”) and a
Swiss company SGS SA, one of the world’s leading inspection companies, domiciled
in Switzerland. Currently a majority 95% of SUCOFINDO’s shares are owned by the
State and the remaining 5% by SGS SA.
In its early years of operation SUCOFINDO performed the inspection of
agriculture commodity stockpiles for the country’s national buffer stocks, one
prime commodity being rice, the country’s staple food. Taking off from this
assignment, which had tested its professionalism and credibility, SUCOFINDO won
the trust, the world’s exporters of agriculture commodities and the foreign
donor institutions.
Economic and industrial development taking place in Indonesia in the last 45
years have created a need for professional service in inspection, supervision,
assessment and testing.
